Description
Scientific Name: Myiopsitta monachus Native Range: South America The Quaker Parrot, also known as the Monk Parakeet, is a small parrot species within the family Psittacidae. The Quaker is characterized by its green body plumage, gray forehead, throat, and breast, and blue flight feathers. In the wild, Quaker Parrots inhabit woodlands, savannas, scrublands, and agricultural regions across parts of South America, including Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. They are unique among parrots for constructing large, communal stick nests, which may contain multiple chambers used by several pairs. Quakers are illegal in the following states (Quaker Parakeet Society 2020): California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Due to restrictions and required permits, we will not sell to Nebraska, Ohio, Rhode Island, or Vermont. IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern At Parrot Stars, we prioritize education, welfare, and responsible parrot ownership to help ensure every bird finds and thrives in a forever home. Before taking home any parrot, we provide comprehensive guidance on proper caging and setup, positive reinforcement training, household safety, nutrition, and enrichment. Parrots in captivity are still wild animals with all their natural instincts. Your overall success and experience with any species of companion parrot is greatly impacted by positive reinforcement training. A parrotβs behavior reflects both the environment they live in and the training they receive. All of our hand-fed babies are hatched and raised in our own breeding facility and weaned onto a diverse, high-variety diet. Our parrots are never clipped and are fully flighted.
