Description
Scientific Name: Pionus menstruus Native Range: Central and South America The Blue-Headed Pionus is a medium-sized parrot species within the family Psittacidae. It is characterized by its distinctive blue head and neck, green body plumage, and red undertail coverts, which are typical of the Pionus genus. In the wild, Blue-Headed Pionus parrots inhabit tropical and subtropical forests, forest edges, and semi-open woodland areas throughout Central and South America. They nest in tree cavities and are generally observed alone, in pairs, or in small groups. IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern At Parrot Stars, we prioritize education, welfare, and responsible parrot ownership to help ensure every bird finds and thrives in a forever home. Before taking home any parrot, we provide comprehensive guidance on proper caging and setup, positive reinforcement training, household safety, nutrition, and enrichment. Parrots in captivity are still wild animals with all their natural instincts. Your overall success and experience with any species of companion parrot is greatly impacted by positive reinforcement training. A parrot’s behavior reflects both the environment they live in and the training they receive. All of our hand-fed babies are hatched and raised in our own breeding facility and weaned onto a diverse, high-variety diet. Our parrots are never clipped and are fully flighted.
